City services are financed by a property tax that is based on the Jefferson County assessed value and, at this time, is $0.13 per $100.00 assessed value. The fiscal year for the city runs from July 1 through June 30.Tax bills are mailed by November 1 for payment by December 31.
In addition to the property taxes, there is an insurance premium tax assessed to insurance premiums for automobiles, homes, first time life and health insurance. Again, city services are financed by this tax. In order for the city to receive proper payment of this tax, it is important that you notify your insurance agent that you reside in the City of Coldstream not in the City of Louisville.
Garbage, Yard Waste, & Recycling
Currently, the city’s sanitation contract is with Waste Management of KY, Inc. The sanitation fee is included as a separate line item on the tax bill. Yard waste, recycling and trash pickup is scheduled for Tuesday of each week. Yard waste consists of grass clippings and leaves.
A recycling bin may be requested by calling the city clerk at 243-7002. If you have a large item to dispose of, you need to contact the City Clerk at (502)243-7002. The City Clerk will make arrangements with Waste Management.

The city has an architectural restriction ordinance in effect. The City Council must approve all construction and architectural design changes that you make to your residence. This includes: room additions, decks, sheds, garages, fences, etc. A written request and plans must be submitted to the City Council for review. Carports are prohibited.
The city has a parking ordinance in effect, which does not allow vehicles to be parked on any street, public way, right of way, or sidewalk within the city at any time. Parking on the grass is prohibited. No trailer, tractor truck, camper, boat, or commercial vehicle shall be parked or kept on any lot at any time, unless housed in a garage.
